Caramel Apple Nachos
With the school year starting, the kids will be coming home hungry and looking for quick snacks. Apple nachos are one of our go-to treats because they’re fast, satisfying, and a bit more wholesome than many packaged options. In autumn I buy apples by the bushel and use them in everything from baked apple chips to apple sandwiches. For a quick, shareable snack, caramel apple nachos can’t be beat.

These apple nachos are irresistible if you love caramel and apples — and we do. Slice crunchy apples, warm up some caramels, and add whatever toppings your family prefers. My kids usually skip the nuts, while my husband and I enjoy chopped peanuts and a sprinkle of mini chocolate chips. The combination of tart apple, sweet caramel, and a crunchy or chocolaty topping is always a hit.

These take just a few minutes to make, so they’re perfect for busy evenings or as an easy appetizer when guests drop by. They’re also very adaptable — try chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips, toffee bits, M&Ms, or peanut butter chips. Get creative: apples and caramel provide a delicious base for many flavor combinations.

INGREDIENTS
15 caramels
1 tsp water
3–4 apples
1/4 cup chopped peanuts
1/4 cup mini semisweet chocolate chips

DIRECTIONS
Core the apples and cut them into 1/4″ slices.
Place caramels and water in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 30 seconds, stir, then continue heating in 5-second increments, stirring between each, until the caramel is melted and smooth.
Arrange the apple slices on a serving plate and drizzle evenly with the warm caramel.
Sprinkle with chocolate chips and chopped peanuts, then serve immediately.
