There are a few places around my house I avoid with a passion: the dark corners of the garage and the small, spooky storage closet tucked inside it. After spotting a large rattlesnake near the garage door last year, every trip into that space comes with a little voice in my head asking: is there a snake here? A coyote? A mountain lion or even a werewolf?
Run, Momma, Run!
I know these fears sound dramatic, but I’m not alone—many parents imagine four‑legged critters lurking where they shouldn’t, especially where pets don’t wear cute name tags. Still, the mess in the garage has to be dealt with, so I’m issuing a small, manageable challenge to myself and to anyone else who shares this anxiety.
Simply Crazy Daily Challenge:
Grab a broom and anything else you consider a “mom defense” tool and tackle the cobwebs in the garage. Sweep the floor thoroughly, move a few boxes to check for pests or nests, and dispose of any obvious debris. Open the storage closet, give it a once‑over, and reorganize as needed so you can see what’s inside next time without dread.
Cleaning the garage isn’t just about removing dirt and webs. It reduces hiding spots for snakes and rodents, makes the space safer to use, and gives you peace of mind. If you find signs of pests or something you’re unsure about, snap a photo and call a professional rather than handling it yourself.
When you’re finished, take a moment to appreciate the small victory. Come upstairs, breathe deeply, and be grateful for getting through the task—alive and unbitten. A little maintenance goes a long way toward keeping your home safe and your nerves calmer.
Good luck, and may your broom be swift and your flashlight bright!
