What is the 30 Day Keto Cleanup Challenge?

Many readers have asked for accountability and support to either start a keto or low-carb lifestyle, connect with others doing the same, or refine what they’re already doing. To meet that need, I created the 30 Day Keto Cleanup Challenge to provide structure, encouragement, and simple tracking tools.

We first ran the challenge in July 2020 and it was a big success. Participants reported progress and stayed motivated by sharing experiences. The challenge is designed to be inclusive and low-pressure while still providing clear goals and daily support.

On a personal note, running these challenges has helped me a lot too. Since July 2020 I have lost 26 pounds and maintained that progress. Because of my other responsibilities—managing this website, working full time, and caring for my mother who has Alzheimer’s—I run the challenges five months a year, roughly every other month with a break for November. That schedule gives you an intensive month of focus followed by a month to breathe before the next session.

The next #30dayketocleanup Challenge will start March 1, 2021.

How can I join the Challenge?

Not everyone uses the same social platforms, so I organize the challenge across email, Instagram, and Facebook to make it accessible.

  1. Download the 30 Day Keto Cleanup Progress Tracker sheet (see the end of the post). Signing up places you on the dedicated challenge email list so you receive only challenge-related updates.
  2. When you join, you’ll be offered the Getting Started Package at a low cost. It includes a 7-day sample meal plan and other tools to help you begin. If you already have a keto plan, you can keep following that.
  3. During the challenge I post daily on Instagram with examples of what I’m eating and progress updates using the hashtag #30dayketocleanup. Follow that hashtag to see all challenge posts and follow my account to join in.
  4. You can also follow daily posts on my Facebook page, where I share ideas, recipes, and encouragement.
  5. If you’re a member of the dedicated Facebook group for women, I post a daily thread there for members to check in, ask questions, and share wins.

Do I have to follow a certain food plan?

No. The challenge is flexible so you can follow whatever plan fits your lifestyle, budget, and goals. If you’re new to keto or unsure what works, the Getting Started Package is a low-cost option that provides a 7-day plan and useful tools to get started.

Because this is a CLEANUP challenge, consider these practical steps to maximize results:

  • Track your daily food intake during the 30 days. Use a free tracker like MyFitnessPal or Carb Manager, or use a paper tracker from the Free Resource Library, or simply record everything on a sheet of paper.
  • Record your starting weight and measurements on the 30 Day Progress Tracker so you can see progress over the month.
  • Choose at least one food or category to eliminate or significantly reduce for the 30 days. Common examples include nuts, heavy cream (which can stall weight loss for some people), processed keto snacks, or alcohol. If cutting out something feels challenging, that’s often a good indicator that it’s a worthwhile target for the month.

Follow the hashtag and my daily posts on Instagram or Facebook to stay connected. I welcome your feedback and enjoy the community accountability as much as you do.

If you have questions or want support, leave a comment or send a message—I’ll respond as soon as I can.
