One of my favorite sandwiches is the Philly cheesesteak. I love it, but I also enjoy changing things up. When the weather turns cooler, casseroles are perfect — and this Philly Cheesesteak Casserole is one I had to try.

This recipe is simple and delivers all the flavors you expect from a cheesesteak. It’s comforting, savory, and filling. A creamy sauce brings the layers together, and a bubbly, browned cheese top finishes it off.

The cheese bakes until golden and bubbly — exactly how a good casserole should be.

How to reheat the casserole

Reheat the casserole on a baking tray in a low-temperature oven until warmed through. For single servings, a toaster oven or microwave works well.

What beef to use

This recipe uses ground beef. When combined with the peppers, onions and seasonings, it reproduces the familiar cheesesteak flavor in casserole form.

Cheese variations

You can swap the provolone for a sharper or spicier cheese like Pepper Jack if you prefer more heat. I recommend using slices rather than pre-shredded cheese for the best melt and texture.
